First of all I don't have a lot of faith in polls that predict how
people will vote three months from now. But I was struck by one poll
I saw this morning.

The polls at realclearpolitics.com indicate that McCain is winning
in Mississippi by 13%. That is not good news for Obama. In a
state that is 38% black -- this would indicate that no more than 20%
of white people are for Obama. Extrapolate that nationwide and I
foresee a McCain victory.

I find this troubling -- and wonder what caused this change ?

Mississippi won't vote for a black man and you think that represents some
sort of change?

Oh, come on ! You aren't going to say that 80% of whites in MS are
racist, are you ? 30% I could see. Or maybe 50% if they just
watched Jeremiah Wright. But not 80%. MS has as many empty headed
white college kids and aging bra burners as do most states. Not to
mention latte drinking soccer moms.

You're entitled to your opinion and that's all that it is. There's no
relationship between it and reality that I can see. I've lived in the South
for over 40 years and am aware of how residual racism works in the voting
booth. And that's reality, whether or not you recognize it.

That's no change......it's ever been thus. Now, if your
poll said that Obama was swamping McCain, THAT'd be an eye-popping
change!

Anyway, Mississippi's votes never have and never will be a microcosm of
how
the rest of the country is going to vote. If anything, they're the ones
who
are more apt than any other state to be out of step with the rest of the
nation. Don't wear yourself out over it.....the realistic chances of
your
extrapolation ever happening are somewhere between nil and none IMHO.

I'm not so sure. I'm waiting for Barack to tell his followers about
his encounter with the burning bush and those stone tablets. When
that happens, I see some more whites abandoning him.

Don't hold your breath.
