To put it more recently -- a barrel of oil costs five times as much
today as it did when Bush was sworn in.

Grand Old Party. indeed !

It is just all in your head, Gary. Phil Gramm, McCain's economic
advisor, just said so. Get counseling and stop whining.

There really is a lot of whining, Rita. But it will almost certainly
get worse. It may even lead to universal gas care. Then we can all
drive around for free. Or, maybe fuel will be taxed more to encourage
"conservation". Will we whine still more because we can't afford to
drive and heat our homes or thank Dems for lowering carbon
emissions?

We've had Republican congresses and Republican presidents for a good stretch
of time enacting supposedly good conservative laws that the average American
citizen supposedly wants. And guess what? Citizens are discontented. That
couldn't possibly be the Republican's fault, the citizens must be whiners is
Gramm's explanation.

So much whining, we're just not going to listen to it, are we?

I seem to have got myself into an ideal situation to weather out
the current storm. Don't need heat or air conditioning because
the climate is right. Even if the temps dip a bit in the winter
they are not so low I must use the gas wall heater but could
manage with just layering on more clothing.

Live in a neighborhood where I can get around
on an adult trike and even bring ample groceries home in the big
basket at the rear. Don't own a car.

So yes I can feel food prices going up but if I want to bother I do
have the know how to prepare decent meals at low cost. There is
nothing I need or want to buy.

So I am not really whining but feeling the pain of those who are.
They have more to whine about than I do and they are entitled.

Will I begin to feel guilty I have nothing to whine about? Ay
there's the rub:)

I thought I was fairly safe for a while too, because of our
fog. This latest heat wave got me wondering, though. At
least I don't live inland like Connie. I was putting up with
85 degrees, but where she was it was over 100 degrees.
I mentioned to one of the guys playing pool the day
before yesterday that he was really tanned. He said he
had just gotten back from Palm Springs. It was 112
degrees there!

Last summer there were a few uncomfortable days. But not
enough to lead me to buy an air conditioner. I made do with
a large fan I put in front of my open front door and just
wearing shorts and a light top and going barefoot in the
house. Living near the beach generally keeps temps livable.
San Diego has many micro climates and inland where my son
lives about 15 driving minutes from my house can heat up.

I was walking around the flat not just barefoot the two
days it was really hot. That's one of the advantages of
living alone, except for my cat who doesn't care, of
course. I'm on the second floor, and I always keep the
two side windows shuttered that would otherwise look
right into the flat next door, so it was private enough.
If I were 20, I wouldn't think so much about it, but alas
I ain't 20 no mo'. When I was in my middle twenties,
my roommate Pam came in one time with some other
people while I was taking a bath, and I ended up
finishing my bath while talking with three girls and two
guys around the bathtub. Since I had come from
Massachusetts not so long before, I was thinking
"Well, this is very California!"
