Re: Some on left target McCain's war record

El Castor - - I almost always agree with you -but this time, your views
turned me off. Let me elaborate. I am also impressed and give great
credit to McCain's military service, but I feel you are glorifying it
too much. Even Obama said that McCain's record during the war is
admirable, indeed, and the fact that he had been tortured - without
giving in - is a huge plus for the man; I mean not giving in.
However, in my eyes, some of those posters who do not see all of that as
a compelling reason why he ought to be elected, I feel, have a good
point. He could be the gteatest war hero ever - and yet - in theory -
have the most absurd political views and opinions as to how to run a
country. One thing has precious little to do with another, except that
his army service shows him to be courageous and patriotic.
Well, allright, those are two fine qualities, should he be the President,
but it takes infinitely more than that to be effective. jusg as i would
also sate tha a harvad educafion - admirable as it is - is no guarantee
of intelligent leadership as a President. Military service is admirable,
but no guarantee that McCain would be a terrific President. I WILL vote
for him - whithout great enthusiasm, since I cannot vote for Obama -for
all the reasons I have stated too often!!!
Eisenhower had a pretty good military background - and was a mediocre
President. So - cool it, Jeff, some of those who consider McCain's
courage under torture not necessarily a guarantee that he would make a
fine President -though, admittedly, that was a terrific characteristic,
but they do have a point. -.
BUT - in the final analysis, almost anything, in my view, would be
better than Obama.
I sometimes feel like a wounded veteran (!!) because I had voted for
Bush, way back, and dearly regretted it since the idiocy of the Iraq
war. (Rita - stop giggling!!!) Although deep in my heart I still feel
that Bush was a better choice than that comic: Al Gore!!
And so it goes!!!'Olly
