(CNSNews.com) - HIV/AIDS infections among young homosexual men have been
on a rapid rise since 2001, according to a report released by the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Thursday (June 26). Meanwhile,
infections among the broader homosexual community have gone up at a
negligible rate and middle-aged homosexuals have experienced a slight
decline in infections.

According to the study, conducted across 33 states, cases of new
HIV/AIDS infections have risen an average of 12.4 percent a year among
homosexuals between the ages of 13 and 24 in the time period between
2001 and 2006.

The increase in young homosexual men is more than 10 times higher than
in the homosexual community overall, where new infections have risen by
1.5 percent a year during the same time period.

Homosexuals between the age of 25 and 44 have experienced a 1.5 percent
decrease in cases of new infections, and homosexual men over 45 have
experienced a 3 percent increase in infection.

Young African American men experienced the greatest infections rate
increase with new cases rising at 14.9 percent per year.
