Amazing times we are in no doubt. I am in my 60s and still working in
the home service sector. In the last few months, due to inflation I
had a number of monthly accounts cancel. Along with my increase in
fuel costs, material cost and food cost I was getting very concerned.
Talking with others who do what I do was not uplifting as they where
in worse shape than I was.
One evening over dinner, a friend and I where talking about the
dramatic price hikes in fuel, food and shipping costs, wondering where
the ceiling is in all this. I mentioned my own concerns in making ends
meet and he told me about a private, invitation only retirement club.
Since I like what I do I was not really interested in retiring - Just
getting a little more income flowing. Well, he told me that in this
club people make small money investments and get a quick, short term
return, it is free to join and easy to do. Easy and low money
investment where key words to me since I had no investment experience.
I checked out the website and decided to do it and am I glad I did. My
return will more than compensate for my lost accounts and more. That
takes a big worry off. Watching prices rise and my income not stay up
with it is scary.
Talking with other people, I am finding that I am not the only one who
is doing something today to generate income that a year ago would
never have thought they would do. A few hundred in an investment would
have never crossed my mind. Others that I have talked to are doing
similar things. For just a few hundred dollars some people are doing
internet based marketing, filling out simple surveys, doing part time
data entry, product sales, consulting and many other things from the
convenience of their home and the internet. No commute costs, no
eating out and no shipping to deal with is a real cost saving.
Could be the up-side here is more people will start networking, get to
know more people and become more socially active. New things to learn,
share with others and work toward new goals can do wonders for a
person knowing that they are not only helping themselves but helping
others as well.
How are others out there generating more income to keep up with
skyrocketing inflation??
One can only cut back so much. Stayin' ahead of retirement!

You are bringing up an International concern. Look at the truck
strikes in France , Spain, and Portugal. Think of all the seniors in
Europe. I have the same concerns. My retiree budget was designed 3
years ago as bare bones, I am not sure what else to cut. I feel I
have to my my a.c.but I am more fanatical now about using lights, fans
etc. I thought I was frugal before. I shop at ALDI, the cheapest
place in the country but they've had to raise their prices also.
Forgive me for being skeptical -- not about the effect of the economy
on retiree budgets -- but on the assertion of the poster who calls
himself 7derek that he has found a way to supplement his income with
various schemes he discovered on the Internet.

Now I see posts here regularly attesting to how much money the
poster has made from these schemes and inviting others to try them.
But I have never read one iota of credible evidence they are anything
more than scams. I certainly would welcome proof I am wrong about
that for that would mean that many seniors with a computer could add
some income.
If these are just scams, then they are particularly troublesome by
being directed at those with fixed incomes. Investing a few hundred
dollars for a scam could be very hurtful.
A few hundred dollars from this guy, another couple hundred from that guy,
still more from that gal over there, and perhaps a few hundred from that
couple here, and - BINGO! - what do you know? That schemer has succeeded
doing for himself well indeed!
It seems that there will always be those who sincerely and honestly believe
that there is much money to be easily and effortlessly made with minimum
risk and little - if any - investment of time/knowledge/effort...and tons of
charlatans are out there more than willing to separate those folks from
whatever funds they may have.
A month or so ago I attended one of those free retirees financial seminars
with lunch and - I guess - asked too many probing questions because I was
told flat out that perhaps the proffered "investment program" was not for
someone like me. I thought about that statement for a moment and walked
out, agreeing that any program that does not straightforwardly and directly
answer questions is indeed not for me. I never did get that lunch.
Thanks Lawrence for posting that experience. I must get at least one
of those every month. They are a sales pitch disguised as a way to
'help' you manage your money. They are only looking for suckers who
have money to give to them. What do they always say..NO SUCH THING AS
A FREE LUNCH. I hope you stoled some bread sticks or a dinner roll.
