I just got through listening and watching Obama react to yesterday's
"performance' of the pastor Wright. As often posted, I will not be
voting for Obama -for many reasons, most of which had been far better
stated than I could, by El Castor.

Olly, there is no doubt that Obama is a very intelligent man, but if
intelligence was the key to being the kind of president that you and I
would like to see in the White House, we could use a national IQ test
to select him -- or her. As for what Obama says about this or that, it
is irrelevant. The man should be judged by his actions when no one was
looking. Twenty years of acceptance of the Reverend Wright tells us
all we need to know.

By the way, I don't know if you saw my post from yesterday. One of
Obama's chief fund raisers, Hatem el-Hady, a man with a page on
Obama's own web site, and who boasts of being a friend of Michelle
Obama, is the former chairman of an Islamic charity, Kindhearts, that
was raided by the feds two years ago, had it's assets frozen, and was
shut down.

The list of current and former associates that Obama needs to throw
under the bus seems to grow by the day.

More excuses for not voting for a Democrat, especially a black
Democrat?
I guess McCain gets a pass for his attempt at getting Charles Keating
off the hook for stealing from little old ladies. It should be noted
that Keating actually did time for his exploits unlike Hatem el-Hady
who has never been charged with a crime.

= = My reaction however to Obama's reaction - and explanation - to
Wright's "performance', as Obama called it, correctly, is of two levels.
First of all, even though, obviously, Obama had to be extgremely careful
to weigh his words since he has been a bit damaged by his pastor. Yet, I
was truly impressed how he handled himself; his fine intellect showed
itself, of course also dictated by the caution he needs to employ in
handling every single word, since he is a candidate for office. But he
handled it extremely well, I found.
= = Incidentally, he said that, although he has known Wright for about
20 years, he did not join that church until 1990 but that is neither
here nor there.; why did he stay with that church??!. I am sure, that
Wright did not deliver such controversial sermons suddenly - now - and
never before, so, Obama was exposed to them right along - yet, did not
leave, and had his family exposed to them. That is a troublesome
consideration. And he neverf explained that; avoided it.
He denounced Louis Farrakhan, though did not mention the recent
support he received from one of the leaders of Hamas. He was extremely
cautious in choosing his words, which he must, as a candidate, and,if
one is to believe his words, then they are impressive and
understandable, on some level.
= = Yet, it still troubles me that he did not leave sooner, and also I
cannot accept his claim that he did not see this side of Wright before.
Nonsense; he must have.
= = and, I must admit that, while listening and being quite impressed
with Obama's reaction, explanation and obviously good intellect, as well
as his carefully crafted words. Yet - his thoughts ,words and
proposals, thoughy beautifully phrased, sound more like something a
Professor would suggest, but rmoved from the reality of some of our
present conditions, which require more experience, a more "seasoned'
plan of action, and more practical and down to earth. Though being
impressed with this idealistic but perhaps impractical man - but, his
wife's comments kept coming back to my mind, in that she had mentioned
she had never before been proud of this country - - and that sounds a
bit more like Pastor Wright - and doesn't Obama share his wife's
views,etc.etc.etc??. Since I will not vote for him - it almost does not
matter to me. but I feel almost sad that I cannot vote for him, since I
find him very impressive; very intelligent, educated and"likeable' - BUT
- no, he is too far Left; too inexperienced; and his rhetoric about
"change" is tiresome, and not spelled out into some factual plans ,which
the more experienced could hang their hat on. I do not think he is
"down to earth" enough to be President - in these times - I would worry.
but the man is, indeed, impressive in some ways, and whether he will be
President or not, he will go far in public life - somehow.
= = If I may be allowed to digress for one more moment - this morning I
listened to Charlie Rose again, and his guest was Jimmy Carter!! who has
written yet another book - but this time about his late Mother. that is
neither here nor there. All I can say is that I was appalled. Not
because I thoroughly dislike him - but because of what he said, and how
he acted. He is angry, feisty, defiant, has an overblown idea of
himself, as a past-President- and stated that the Hamas was perfectly
willing to make peace with Israel. It was only when Charlie Rose
pressed himn for details that he admitted the higher-ups of Hamas still
declare that Israel does not have a right to exist. His misguided zest
and unfulfilled former ambitions shade and alter many facts - and he
sees himself as a great "official" negotiator who will save the world;
that part of the world which he sanctions!! and, of course, not to
forget, that he honored the late Yasser Arafat by placing a wreath on
his grave.
