It's in there, you missed it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought-terminating_clich%C3%A9
You left out the most efficient political
thought-teminating cliché (in America):
Socialism.
See :
Socialism or Barbarism! (false dichotomy)
That's different. There's no need to invoke any
comparison with the word "socialism". Just the
word all by itself is enough to stop most Americans
from thinking dead in their tracks.
Person A: Would you like some ice cream?
Person B: Socialism!
Persons C, D, fn(E), Alabama, and Mississippi: I don't
cotton to un-Americans who want ice cream.
Wiki is a marvelous tool! I use it often.
I looked up "Fort Ord, CA" yesterday. It was my old
Army basic training place. It closed in 1994! A lot
of the streets still have military like names. I also use
Google Maps a lot. Actually there are a dozen or so
map pages on the web, but I know Google Maps.
The satellite pictures vary a lot as to age.
My sister told me to look up my address on
Google Earth, and there I was in the window
with my cat Cnut. Cnut had been dead for
six months when I saw that picture. I was
looking out the window straight down at the
camera. I don't have any recollection of the
event, but I guess there must have been
something odd about the truck down on the
street taking the pictures that made me look
at it.
