Listening to what some black people think about this country, if I were a

Maybe you should be worried. At least in the area where I live, Asians
are economically and academically successful, and when it comes to
education and business they are lumped together with Whites as members
of the same privileged class.
I'd feel comfortable with lots of them in my neighborhood. I doubt
Obama's grandmother would feel fearful walking down street and seening
a Asian guy.
As I've previously mentioned, San Francisco's Lowell High caters to
the brightest students. Three Chinese families sued to compel the
school district to admit students based strictly on ability, without
regard to race. They won, and overnight Hispanic enrollment declined,
and new Black enrollment dropped to almost nothing. Three years later
I read a sad lament by a left winger who complained that when she
looked out a window at Lowell she saw nothing but a vast see of White
faces. She couldn't admit, perhaps even to herself, that those faces
were mainly Asian. (-8
There is a reason.
But maybe not the reason you think. Those Asian values of family and
education are (I believe) just a byproduct of intelligence. The
average Chinese, Japanese, or Korean kid or parent is going to be 20%
- 25% smarter than an average black kid or parent.
I don't know and wonder if the spread is that wide. But, the spread
will account for much better results in whatever people decide to take
on.
But, black culture does not value education at all. They don't buy
their kids books or value teaching them to read as kids. There are
great many comparisons.
But, like all immigrants, I notice the first generation that arrives
from Asia will fight like hell to see their kids do well. Asian kids
do very well in school. But, by third generation, it ain't all
peaches and cream Jeff. The motivation to take the hard course is not
there and mediocre result closer to what what the average white
American in course and career paths results.
Also, great difference between different parts of Asia. Philipinos
and Indonesians are not doing as great as those in China, Japan,
Korea. Also, kids in Japan and Taiwan are not all that motivated any
more. Kids hanging out on corner and laying on their asses is very
common and growing in at least those two nations.
Respect for traditional morality in Asia is what the backbone of their
success is from my observation. Wonder what Jim Higgins thinks?
Regardless of generation, Asians are more economically successful than
Blacks. It's an obvious and undeniable fact. I retired from a job as a
network installer and administrator. My co-workers, and class mates in
the frequent classes I took, were largely Asian. Not an accident.
There is an interesting report that I read this morning concerning a
63 year old Israeli mathematician, Avraham Trakhtman, who just solved
a problem that has stumped mathematicians all over the world for the
last 38 years. It's also no coincidence that guy worked in Israel and
not the Congo. I don't mean to be racist, I'm just observing what we
all know, but would rather not confront.
A benefit of higher.
intelligence is the awareness that actions we take today can have
outcomes far in the future. People of lower intelligence tend to live
in the moment and pay little attention to consequences. A high value
placed on education might take 20 - 30 years to pay dividends, but
eventually it will pay off. Intelligent people understand that, and
are also better equipped to take advantage of that education.
Values taught and enforced by parents. You very
seldom see an Asian kid that does not live at home with their mother
and father, who are married. They put education high on the ladder
and Teacher's Day as a holidy really means something. Kids in Taiwan
flood the Confucian temples on these day to make prayers for academic
success. We have a Teacher's day in response to unions but it is
meaningless.
Vietnam November 20 This holiday allows students to express their
respect to their teacher. Students begin preparing a week in advance,
and many classes usually prepare literature and art to welcome
teacher?s day, while other student prepare foods and flowers for the
parties held at their schools. Students usually visit their teachers
at their homes to offer flowers and small gifts, or organize trips
with their teachers and classmates. Former students also pay respect
to their former teachers on this day. The holiday has its origins in a
meeting between educators in communist bloc nations in Warsaw in 1957.
It was first celebrated in 1958 as the Day of the International
Manifest of Educators; in 1982 the day is renamed Vietnamese
Educators' Day.
Taiwan September 28 The day honors teachers' virtues, pains, and
also their contribution not only to their own students but also to the
whole society. People often make use of the day to express their
gratitude to their teachers, such as paying them a visit or sending
them a card. This date was chosen to commemorate the birth of
Confucius, believed to be the model master educator in ancient China.
In 1939, the Ministry of Education established the national holiday to
be August 27, the attributed birthday of Confucius.
In 1952, the Executive Yuan changed it to September, stating that it
was calculated to be the precise date in the Gregorian calendar. The
festival celebration occurs in the temples of Confucius around the
island, known as the "Grand Ceremony Dedicated to Confucius" (????).
The ceremony begins at 6 AM with drum beats. 54 musicians dress in
robes with blue belts, 36 (or 64) dancers dress in yellow with green
belts. They are led by Confucius's chief descendant (currently Kung
Te-cheng) and followed by ceremonial officers. Three animals -- the
cow, the goat, and the pig -- are sacrificed. The hairs plucked from
these sacrificed animals are called the Hairs of Wisdom. In addition,
local education institutes and civil offices award certain teachers
for their excellence and positive influence.
