much simpler. but a device called a hair trimmer. set it at its
closest setting, and use it to take off the stubble. at that point you
have about half day's stubble left. then get out your electric razor.
i've been bearded since i started backpacking in '65. growing a beard
on a two week packing trip would be no fun, so i did that part
before leaving home. never found it necessary to shave it off. i use
the trimmer set at about middle setting, and the beard is always
comfortable. use it about once a week.

I've tried using a beard trimmer to whack down a 4-day growth and it
works quite well. The problem, though, is that I wind up with hair all
over the place and then have to clean up afterwards.
