Because of my study of anthropology I know well that the nuclear
family as it is today has existed for a very short time over the
course of human history. The extended family in some configuration
was the norm. And Hillary Clinton was not off base when she once
said "It takes a village to raise a child."

I was thinking about that while reading this thread earlier. The
older I get and the more I see of people and groups, the more I
think the BEST way a child can be raised is by the village.

Yes, we need more villiage idiots.

Yes, attached to nobody in particular and taking on the lowest common
denominator in values.

Jim, do you think one set of values has already been determined to be the
only ones that should be allowed?

If you do, can you please list all of them.

In a Jerry Seinfeld monologue, he pointed out that one nice thing
about living in the future is that you don't have to worry about the
vagaries of fashion, because whenever you see people on teevee
from the future, they're all wearing the same clothes. They finally
decided, apparently, "Well, this is what we're all going to wear
from now on. We've hashed it out, and finally come to agreement."

I'm already from the future, since 95% of the time I'm in sneakers
and blue jeans and a black T-shirt. Even the other 5% it's usually
just the colour of the T-shirt that's different. I have a friend
who's variously but always spiffily dressed. Even I can see that he
has superb taste in clothes. Maybe he only hangs out with me
because he looks so good by comparison when he's standing
next to me.

(Oh god, it's still raining. All bleedin' day!)
