After the 2004 elections the London Daily Mirror in the U.K. asked the
following question in big, bold letters:
HOW CAN 59,054,087 PEOPLE BE SO DUMB?
http://static.scribd.com/docs/4rv82so7lpgh6.swf?INITIAL_VIEW=width
The Daily Mirror also, believe it or not, included the following
vulgar language as a sub-headline on the front page, just above the
fold on the day after the election saying that Bush voters were:
"The self-righteous, gun-tottin', military-lovin', sister-marryin',
abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', foreigner-despisin', non-passport-
ownin', rednecks, who believe God gave America the biggest *** in the
world so it could urinate on the rest of us and make America free and
strong."http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=4...
Since there are still many Bush supporters on these newsgroups that
still seems like a fair question to ask, "How can 59,054,087 people be
so dumb?"
I wouldn't call myself a Bush supporter, but seriously, how do you think
things are going to change?
Nothing that has happened since the fall election nor anything that has
been
said during the campaigns sounds resoundingly of change.- Hide quoted

My wish list for change is:
1. An end to war mongering, war crimes, war propaganda, colonialism
and fighting for oil company profits and a return to treating
terrorism against the U.S. as a criminal activity and not a conspiracy
by foreign countries.
2. An end to government borrowing and perhaps paying off some of the
national debt Bush created or giving the middle class some tax cuts.
3. An end to trying to destroy Social Security and perhaps some
changes to make it solvent for the next 75 years or so.
4. Eliminate the 15% tax rate for capital gains and dividends or
extend them to include 401K accounts.
5. Make some sort of progress with the health care problem. I would
even settle for a small step as long as it qualifies as progress.
6. Make some sort of progress with the global warming problem. It
doesn't have to be anything dramatic. I would like to see some work
done on cleaning up the coal-fired power plants, even if it requires
some government subsidies to the industry or a government sponsored
research program, for instance.
7. Kill the Republican indentured-servant bankruptsy law and rewrite
it so that people have a reasonable chance to start over again when
they get in financial trouble.
At least a couple of these such as changes in healthcare probably must be
done but not everyone views the others as being problems. Even with
healthcare, although change must take place, the alternatives pose huge
problems.
I would guess that the desired changes that I have listed would also
be those desired by most Democrats. However, I don't believe I've seen
any information on what changes Republicans might want, if any.
