Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others
Relationship persists even when controlling for other variables

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than
Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent,
according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and
Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having
excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of
Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of
excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age,
gender, church attendance, and education.
The basic data -- based on an aggregated sample of more than 4,000
interviews conducted since 2004 -- are straightforward.

People who participated in this poll self-reported, that is, they
judged their own mental health status.
That seems to make the poll questionable as a true measure. I am
surprised Gallup did not emphasize the self-reporting aspect in its
report on the poll and the results.
personal situation. Hard to deny that. Look at this group. The most
negative and pessimistic among us are the liberals and populists.
will have to present evidence we are unhappy with our own life
situations.
If I was foolish enough to believe that 9/11 was a plot of George Bush
(who by the way should be impeached), that we were in Iraq solely for
the purpose of benefiting Bush and Cheney's oil buddies, that this was
the worst most racist country on earth, that domestic fundamentalist
Christians were no better than Muslim fanatics, that the CPI and
unemployment numbers were rigged, that we were headed down a hopeless
path toward poverty, exploitation, and fascism, and that global
warming doomed the world to a fate of floods, droughts, and famine,
then I expect I might be unhappy and depressed about my life and
personal situation.
If you believed those things you would be a very sick democrat.
There are several in this group who are just that sick. That's the
reason I have them plonked. Why let them upset me with their drivel?
Life's too short. (-8
