No, no, Sorry, but I'm still not convinced. First, I'm not really a
social conservative, although there are aspects of the liberal social
agenda that I find disturbing. But on the economic side of the aisle
there are genuine differences. If you doubt that then look at Canada
and Western Europe. The Socialist International is alive and well, and
we have a member organization right here in the United States -- the
DSA. For a politician to be a self described socialist in the US would
in most cases be a political disaster -- although we do have at least
one in congress -- Bernie Sanders. There are many like him, but they
take care to call themselves things like "progressives".

So look at a countries like France, Sweden, and Germany. There are
clear differences which have resulted in sharply lower per capita GDP,
higher unemployment, and rationed medical care. Granted, these may be
differences of degree, but they are differences I would prefer not to
experience.

Per capita GDP (PPP):
US $43,800
France $31,200
Germany $31,900
Sweden $32,200
UK $31,800

That site is 2006, when the Euro was $1.256
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_historical_exchange_rates
It's $1.426 today, bringing France up to about $35,400.
That's despite the "welfare state" and "socialized medicine"
aspects of personal security, that do cost money, which
Europeans benefit from and Americans don't.

Yea, but this is per capita GDP, not per capita income. We're getting into
apples and oranges, here. Per capita GDP is a measure of productivity, not a
measure of standard of living.

What will the figures look like next year, after the dollar
drops more? And we still won't have a poverty net, or
national health in America. All we have is a devastating
and unnecessary war, and huge debt.

Those differences are largely attributable to 50 years of post war
European Socialism, The Third Way, Democratic Socialism, Social
Democracy -- whatever you choose to call it. The left wing of the
Democrat Party, given the opportunity, would mimic the policies that
have led to those dramatic differences. I might add that Europe
appears to be waking up, but they have dug themselves a deep hole.
People like Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore would like to
dig the same hole -- and with the unwitting help of nitwits like
George Bush, they may succeed.
