things back to normal by doing an XP "restore" to a time

pack 2 some time later with no such problem. I have zone
alarm and AVG, so that should be more protection than I
could get from an habitually flawed fix to the habitually flawed
and habitually suspect Windows OS.
Yes, my company delayed permission to put on SP2 to XP for nearly a year
because of compatibility issues with the rest of our software stack. A few
months ago, I made the flawed decision to purchase a Vista laptop for my
wife, forcing me to then go back (to eliminate her wailing!) and load XP. My
son has a Vista desktop at work and while he doesn't mind Vista per se,
every time Zone decided to do an update, his system froze, forcing him to
shut down auto updates and instead download and run updates manually.
Too much time is wasted on the MSFT issues...,...
