For those of you who support some sort of Universal health care, what
is
your goal? What are you trying to accomplish?

I guess they want what Canada has.

I did a bit of research on the Canadian Health Care
system. Here's some of what I found:

It seems that they are not really all that happy with their system. In fact,
they are gradually going back to a free market system. Doctor Nadeem Esmail,
Director of Health System Performance Studies and manager of the Alberta
Policy Research Centre says "we don't have the resources to lower the
waiting times now despite spending more on health care than every other
country with a universal health care system outside of Ireland." Colin
McMillan, President of the Canadian Medical Association attributes the long
wait times to the lack of capacity in the health care system. During the
1990s in a money saving effort, the federal government drastically cut back
on medical training courses and cut off foreign doctors from legally
practing in Canada. "We thought there was a surplus of doctors at the time.
We thought we could save some money." he said. "The chief problem our health
care system faces today is access due to a lock of DOCTORS, NURSES,
HOSPITALS AND TECHNOLOGY."

Waiting times in Canada: (the elapsed time between seeing a GP and being
referred to and finally seeing a specialist)

Plastic Surgery 35.4 weeks
Gynecology 14.3 weeks
Opthalmology 27.2 weeks
Otolaryngology 17.2 weeks
General Surgery 10.1 weeks
Neurosurgery 31.7 weeks
Orthopedic surgery 40.3 weeks
Cardiovascular surgery 8 weeks
Urology 11.5 weeks
Radiation oncology 5 weeks
Medical oncology 4.9 weeks

Canada has the lowest number of MRI imaging machines of a number of
countries (5 per ONE MILLION PEOPLE)

Because the government pays for prescription drugs, many drugs are not
available to Canadians because drug companies WILL NOT SELL TO CANADA
BECAUSE TO DO SO WOULD RESULT IN A LOSS. Sally Pipes of the Pacific Research
Institute said "Because of the enormous cost of developing a drug,
businesses must first recuperate their costs before entering a market that
dictates prices which are lower than other places."

Boy that Canadian healthcare system sure seems like the model we need to
pattern ours after, doesn't it? I WONDER WHY IN THE HELL CANADA IS MOVING TO
A FREE MARKET SYSTEM.

People that say they want some other countrys health care system are just
blowing smoke. They don't want it bad enough to move there and as deadbeats
usually do, they want it the easy way by having someone else buy it for
them.
