I don't usually post entire articles, but with this one it seemed
appropriate.
"America as the land of opportunity has passed into history."
Return of the Robber Barons

Meanwhile, US colleges and universities continue to graduate hundreds
of
thousands of qualified engineers, IT professionals, and other
professionals who will never have the opportunity to work in the
professions for which they have been trained. America today is like
India of yesteryear, with engineers working as bartenders, taxi cab
drivers, waitresses, and employed in menial work in dog kennels as the
offshoring of US jobs dismantles the ladders of upward mobility for US
citizens.
Mr. Roberts needs to study his history. In 1961 I was changing jobs in the
defense industry and was in LA looking for a job. On the front page of the
LA Times one day there was a picture of a cab driver looking out the window
of his cab. So what is so peculiar about a cab driver in LA, I wondered.
The article explained that he had a PhD in astrophysics and had been laid
off from his defense industry job.
