Amazing. On one hand, we complain about illegals, and on the other
hand, when someone suggests a way to separate the chaff from the wheat
to make enforcement easier, they scuttle the idea.. One has to wonder
what these people are thinking about.....
Here;s what they're thinking:
1) Change the Border Security standards to require passports for
re-entry. (Now, in one fell swoop, you've forced a huge percentage of
Americans who don't have one to get one, and....
2) It's a document that standards of which set by international
convention, and those conventions are all in favor of making them as
counterfeit proof as they can be made.
So, you're well on your way to a national ID card with somebody else to
blame. Change a few more innocuous regulations under the guise of
preventing counterfeiting (to get a job, either show a passport or SIX
other forms of ID.....) and get the banks to require them (identity theft
is such a mess) and you're good to go.

this country within a relatively short period of time. It will take a
much longer period of time before everyone has a valid passport. Heck,
the passport people could not even handle the load, when they required
passports for re-entry for what Canada, and Mexico?
Granted, but the political climate doesn't permit anybody doing anything
controversial. National ID will never happen, but it needs to happen. If you
can do it by stealth, over time, it still gets done, and nobody in
Washington loses their job,
