This being usenet, one need not be a conservative to respond. Thus, from my
non-conservative vantage point, my offering of the perfect solution to their
problem.

First, in order to expunge from themselves any vestigal traces of Lincoln's
Republican Party before they took it over and changed its soul, they need to
change its name so as to stop confusing middle America. Several possible names
come to mind, such as Conservative Party, Return to the Industrial Revolution
Party, American Neanderthal Coalition Party or even perhaps the American Fascist
Party (which got a dirty name after its foreign cousins strayed away from the
concept of corporate governance into another entirely different minefield).

Having divested itself of all of its mewlish historical relationships, it would
then be free to sell its own unique offering to the American public,
unemcumbered by history or tradition.

Then, the public having recognized its clear choices between Democratic,
traditional Republican, Socialist, Communist, Green Peace and other assorted
political ventures and/or philosophies, could by their votes tell them how
popular and acceptable their home grown Conservative values or principles are to
the voting public.

Dollar to a doughnut that they haven't got the guts to try for fear that they'll
find out what they've by now probably suspected...........that they're about as
popular with the bulk of American voters as a turd in a punch bowl or a pork
chop at a kosher picnic. Whether they do it or not, they'll find out after the
2008 votes are tallied how good or bad a prognosticator I am.
