In my experience many (if not most) MDs are simply arrogant
technicians. A substantial portion are truly "quacks".
Ask one if they practice "folk medicine" or "scientific medicine",
and observe what happens.

I believe you are closer to right than wrong. As much as I hate to
say it, especially now that I'm at the age where I need doctors the
most. When I was young, I looked at doctors in awe. Perhaps it
was because I was a teenager and they were in their 30s-40s. But
now I'm in my 60s and look at these guys in their 20s and 30s -- and
I am not impressed at all.

So call a plumber or lawn engineer when you need a bypass.

Actually, my arrogant nurse practitioner primary caregiver picked up the problem
and sent me to an arrogant cardiologist, who confirmed it and sent me to the OR
where one of those young, arrogant cardiac surgeons gave me a quadruple bypass.
That was four years ago when I was 79 and, like Timex, the old repaired ticker
just keeps on ticking.....who cares about arrogant when they do work like that?

George Z.

I'd like to hear the definition of "arrogance" in these complaints.
Indeed, I can recall a few I would designate as that but a long time
ago. I've found my present stable of doctors (one acquires one as
one ages and needs ongoing preventive care) to be quite forthcoming
and willing to explain things to me and respectful as well.

I won't deny arrogant docs don't exist but if I ran across one I'd
quickly look for a replacement.

Perhaps those complaining can give some specific examples?

Arrogant to me means a doctor who brushes off questions, doesn't
give you the downside as well as the upside of various meds and
procedures, doesn't listen to you when you report problems with
meds or treatment and takes offense if you wish to obtain a
second opinion. In summary, one who treats you as an object
rather than as an intelligent human who deserves to understand
the rationale behind his or her recommendations.
