I certainly hope this is true. Social Security overhaul is long
overdue. It has become so different from what was envisioned by
Roosevelt as a temporary help to tide people over to taking care of

Your ignorance about the reasons why Social Security was enacted lead you to make reactionary, and quite erroneous opinions.

First of all, Social Security was NEVER intended to be temporary. It WAS intended to be a floor against poverty in one's declining years, by providing a continuing income that would be an alternative to WELFARE.
While Social Security was never intended to be a complete retirement program, it did, never-the-less, function like one, despite its improper funding mechanism. The fact that people ASSUMED that it would be a complete program is not the fault of the program; that's the fault of the people. You know what people make of themselves when they ASSume. Social Security never presented itself otherwise. The fact that people failed to educate themselves, instead preferring to base their financial security on hearsay and error, is not the fault of the program.

Social Security STILL has a place to achieve its objectives by providing a floor income against poverty. Its problems stem from inadequate funding mechanisms, and can easily be remedied.
