I just saw on CNN that Big Steve, the Croc Hunter, was killed while
filming a documentary. Reports are conflicting, but one of them says
he was stabbed thru the chest by a sting ray......
Knowing the media's "expertise" in sea life, and their tendency to
sensationalize, I really don't know -- the story will stabilize in a
few
days.....
Nevertheless, I feel the world has just had a great loss. Steve
was
a very colorful and interesting personality, and his efforts to bring
nature into our homes , in an interesting and sometime comic way,
was an inspiriation which I am sure has resulted in a much greater
interest in conservation and preservation of natural resources...
I feel it personally, and I don't know why. Maybe it's because
Steve's
presentations struck a chord with my sense of humor... He didn't mind
exaggeration and putting himself as the "fool", when it made the
presentation more interesting. He even parodied himself in
commercials, which wrer extremely entertaining, even if I don't
remember what he was selling :>)))). Steve Irwin, Perkins,
and Jack Hanna are people who taught us about another world......
Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.
And the bear finally got Steve........

At the risk of being boorish:
Millions of crocs have to be pissed today knowing one of their own
never got to take him out. He was an idiot and every time he would
state: "Crikey mate, look at those teeth", while maneuvering to put
his face as close to the spitting cobra, crocks teeth, or other animal
part; I would root for Darwin's take of events.
The guy was an idiot and if I had kids I would never have let them
watch his antics. Wonder how many boys got bit emulating Irwin.
I know it is impolite but it had to be said.
I tend to agree with your post, Jim. Life is dangerous as it is. Many
times others have to risk (and sometimes lose) their lives trying to save
some daredevil like that who enjoyed tempting fate for a little
cheap/frivolous celebrity. It shows disrespect for what our parents and
Divine Providence have given us. I sympathize with his family ---- I
won't be shedding any tears for him.
As is the case with race car drivers, boxers, high-wire walkers,
bull-riders, etc........ "You live by the sword, expect to die by the
sword" and "You reap what you sow."
