I see many people who won't spend their money to make their health
and/or quality of life better for a variety of reasons. I think of a
95-year-old neighbor with plenty of money, for instance, who won't go
to assisted living, won't hire a housekeeper and as a result is a huge
burden to her children, both of whom must come long distances to do
everything for her including grocery shopping and housecleaning.
Another 90-year-old man refuses to have hip surgery and suffers
needlessly and won't hire the help he needs. In fact, the greatest
problem of old age, IMO, is denial, not lack of money.
