The amazing thing to me is the pervasiveness of his argument. IMV it is
an excellent example of what Diamond describes as a kleptocracy in "Guns,
Germs and Steel." The right has constructed an ideology in which there is
the fiction that everyman can succeed where truth is that very few can now
break the bonds of poverty (or even middle class). We are increasingly
seeing the desperation of the population in the appeal of beat-the-system
get rich schemes of the lottery, American Idol, sports stars, or other
similar schemes where only a very few succeed, but so many play along in
the hope that they might become lucky.

I think you nailed it. js is clutching at straws.

No, just sharing the progressiveness of the current personal income tax
law and suggesting that if in fact the rich are getting away with
paying no taxes, then this is a way to get them.

No "if". But a rationale for your selfish attitude towards our system
of distributing costs of our govt.

So when you can't do the math and have no data to support your position
(remember, it was YOU who said that the 150K income earner can pay less
than 20% in taxes - not me) you resort to personal attacks?

Goody for you. Does it make you feel more important and powerful
casting personal attacks at people you don't like? To me that behavior
is petty but not unexpected.

I think the high wage earners pay far too much in taxes - I think the
government spends far too much money. I think income redistribution is
a failed social policy. I think taxes out to be put on consumption
because that is all that really matters. You want to save on taxes?
Stop enjoying life and be a miser. No problem for me.

But when you post something as inane as you did and have your
sock-puppet friend play second fiddle, you get what you deserve. You
think rich people get away with not paying taxes? Fine - get the tax
money right where it hurts them the most - the $100 bottle of wine and
the $80K car, and the fancy dinners at Spagos.

Or? Do you have a better idea? Poor people don't do fancy cars and
Spagos - so they pay less in taxes.

My criticism is well justified. You just fail to even read it. Nothing
you write is even related.

You have no better idea. Got it. Done.
