My wife is a Catholic and the daughter of Italian immigrants. I assure
you she feels no allegiance to the Pope, and no more than a fondness
for Italy, where she still has distant relatives.

Why do you assume Jews are any different? In fact. they are just human
beings, like you and me. They're all different. One of our oldest
friends is Jewish. She's not religious, and has no more than a
curiosity about Israel, a place she has never been, and has no
intention to visit. I know more about what's going on in Israel than
she does, but it would only be natural if she felt more of a
connection to the place than you and I. Jews aren't some sort of
monolithic conspiracy out to get you, Earl. Not convinced? No, I guess
not. At your age I suppose you never will be.

To your credit, you've made the point better than I could have.

I second that. Good work, Jeff.

There is a story about the translation of the Septuagint into Greek from the
Hebrew. Supposedly the authorities in Alexandria commissioned 60 Jewish
scholars to do the translating. They were deliberately kept separate so that
they could not confer. Then their translations were compared. They were
identical!

Moishe in Jerusalem got real excited when he heard that, and went to his
rabbi to tell him about this miracle. Sixty translations, no collaboration,
and all identical.

"Nonsense" said the rabbi. "Now put 60 Jewish scholars in the same room, and
get agreement, now THAT would be a miracle."

So much for monolithic conspiracy.
