Remedy - civil unions.

This tread has gone on and on and on. To what point? Let me take care of
it. The solution is to eliminate marriage. This isn't a new idea, as I
first heard it many years back, during the sixties. The idea is broken
into two parts, consideration for the children and consideration for the
couple. I can't do justice to the arguments other than to note that the
reasons for marriage weigh less year by year as society becomes less
dependent on forced togetherness of the family. Seems to me that this is
the ideal forum to resurrect the old arguments.

Marriage is a civil contract that confers special rights and
privileges only for those who marry each other. There is no reason to
abolish it just because some heterosexuals want to keep it all to
themselves. Allowing homosexuals to marry has absolutely nothing to
doe with anyone else's marriage. Those who don't want to marry don't
have to.
