That is one thing that is great about the debate we are having. For
instance, until the House started complainig about what is wrong with the
Bush proposal, and until I started to learn about past attempts at amnesty,
I would most likely not thought of erecting a barrier along the southern
border as a partial solution to the problem. I now think that is a good
thing to do, as long as the barrier is effective....it is contructed along
the entire length of the border...and not some promise of things to
come....which may never come at all.....

Spain has been coping with illegal immigration from North Africa. In
2005, they granted amnesty to 200,000 illegals. Many now feel that
this was a mistake. The most recent boatloads of 6,000 are taxing the
Spanish system and causing a change in their support for humanitarian
immigration.
