Example was Jim Chamblee who was one of the most irritating assholes I
ever encountered here. But, behind the facade was a decent fellow
with nice family and friends. I know he was just delighted to poke
his finger in folks eye here.
I advised folks to watch Carlos Mencia some time back. I like his
approach to getting in your face and he is pretty fair in that he
tweaks everyone's nose.
You need to get some perspective Rita. If you can't handle it, learn
to filter. I would certainly hope everyone here is not as rude and
offensive to real people as they are here. But, I also hope we are
not so thin skinned that we can't see the difference.
Some here are deadly serious homophobes.
I suspect there are damn few who are so crass that they don't have the
manners and sensitivity to live in polite society. Most folks here
are relatively sophisticated in their occupational resume's.
Oh sure they are. They would be looked at as undesirable by an
employer or "polite society" if they ranted on the street corners the
same stuff they say here. I have, in fact, heard the same rants
about gays in the same words and tone on the street corners and
in the subway stations of New York City. But the same guys that
do that are too chicken to rant racist material. The public gives
the gay bashers a wide berth. If they extended their rants to racist
comments they would get beat up. And they are too wily and
chicken to do that. But they would not go into a gay community
and run their mouths off.
I don't say anything in this "forum" I would not say to anyone,
anywhere. Not that I go around buttonholing people and laying my
beliefs on them in the least, but I would not be ashamed to stand
up publicly for my views. Can you say the same? Would you tell
your little joke in a classroom? At that dinner table with your
prospective in-laws you wrote about?
I would guess that the term is netiquette. JimS admits to trolling for
responses by insults and degrading language. It's his idea of "fun".
This is a misuse of the internet. Chamblee's responses OTOH were great
responses to trolls. He spoiled their fun. Most of us have open minds
and bend backwards to avoid insulting trolls. We try to avoid such
behavior.
