This is fantastic news!! Checked it out on several news sites and
seems to be true. Wonder if Dems will try to overturn it in the
courts. Scum sucking bastards.

With the recent special legislative session now concluded, I want to
personally share with you some of the accomplishments and the positive
impact they will have on you and your family. Working with Governor
Perry, Speaker Crad***, members of the House and Senate, and the Texas
Tax Reform Commission, we passed meaningful legislation that will
improve your children's education, lower your property taxes, and
significantly invest in our higher education system.
The legislation passed will:
* Lower property taxes by 1/3 in 2008
* Dedicate future revenues to further buy down property tax rates
* Strengthen fiscal accountability in our schools, including budget
transparency to better inform taxpayers on how schools spend their money
* Hold districts accountable for unacceptable performance
* Fund programs for teacher mentoring and principal leadership
* Improve graduation rates
* Promote college readiness in our schools
* Reward teachers for student achievement in high poverty school districts
* Increase teacher pay by $2,000
* Reform the business tax structure to make it fairer for all businesses
through broadening the base and lowering the rate
* Make the largest investment to Texas higher education infrastructure
in the state's history
By putting statesmanship above politics, we have come together to pass
real reform that improves our education for our children and puts money
back into the pockets of Texas families.
While I'm proud of the work that has been accomplished, we must do more
to make Texas a better place to live, work, and grow a business. I will
continue traveling the state talking about our shared concerns, such as
ensuring our children have the opportunity to succeed in life, working
families keep more of their hard earned dollars and the overall quality
of life in Texas continues to improve for all to enjoy.
God Bless Texas,
Lt. Governor David Dewhurst

Intelligence never was a fault attributed to reactionaries. Here we
have a bill which supposedly increases costs( teacher pay, supportive
programs to increase student achievement ), while lowering revenues
needed to pay for those items. Sort of smacks of the 'free lunch'
syndrome, which particularly afflicts reactionary thinking. When one
stops to think of these goodies, one next asks, if one is intelligent,
'from where is the money to pay for these things to come, assuming you
are lowering revenues?'
Reactionaries never stop to think of that. They never get beyond
'accountability' and 'tax cut.'
Democrats, OTOH, usually have far more fiscal sense and responsibility
than reactionaries. Which is why Democrats understand that there is NO
such thing as a free lunch, and you need to PAY for those programs you
institute. Democrats also know and understand that BORROWING and
spending is far WORSE than taxing and spending. Because if you tax and
spend, you at least PAY for what you buy. When you BORROW and spend,
you pay for it double, or triple or quadruple. But reactionaries never
stop to think about that. Simplistic minds always cost themselves money.
Do you live in or own property in Texas?
What has that got to do with the price of tea in China?
Dopes like Jim Stevens get a woody when they read "tax cut." They
think they really can get something for nothing or at least put the
burden off on future generations.
