That is NOT the definition of racism, although insisting that one race
is superior to another would be a racist opinion. Racism is basing a
general opinion of a particular race on a racial characteristic(s)
such as skin color, features, etc. If someone believed that all Chinese
people happened to be studious, that would be incorrect, but it
wouldn't necessarily be racist. It would only be racist if the person
believed that all Chinese people were studious BECAUSE they were
Chinese. There are other reasons that someone could base that opinion
on, such as aspects of Chinese culture, but a generalization such as
that is likely to be wrong no matter what. It's like believing that all
red cars are fast.
The post you're responding to does seem somewhat racist to me, but it's
hard to tell, as the posted never used absolute generalizations such as
"all Chinese are...." In any case, it's pretty damned unhelpful to the
original poster.
I'd say managing the rent at that salary is certainly possible in
several neighborhoods.
$56,000 for a family of 4 is hardly manageable in New York. You can
be middle class in most of the USA unless you are in one of those
particularly high cost of living areas. NY is one such area. Sure
you can commute from the farmlands of New Jersey if you want but you
can also live in hundreds of small cities with hardly any commute fore
a comparable salary and have a better lifestyle. I love New York and
visit 12-20 times a year but would only live there with a family if I
was wealthy.
Thumper
he tricky part is going to be finding schools
when it becomes necessary, as there simply are not many good public
schools in the affordable neighborhoods.
