If indeed pressure is put on the US by oil producing countries such as
Iran or Venezuela, it will be a good thing. It will accelerate our
switch to alternate energies. Brazil is eager to sell us ethanol,
Canada will continue to sell oil to us as will Mexico. We can have a
crash program to develop biodiesel. We can certainly up our use of
solar wind energy. We seem to need a crisis situation to do what we
should have been doing all along.
The Iranians could probably get better prices for their oil if payment
were made in dollars instead of Euros. China for example, has buku
dollars to offer. They may be hurting themselves more than the
questionable effect this would have on the US economy.
I thought it was already a settled expectation that Iran is
going to move to Euros.
BTW recall seeing a report on some new nuclear technology in South
Africa-- a relatively recent proliferator. Perhaps the Iranians could
deal with them for the technology that they want. IIRC "pebble" fuel.
