Andy apologizes:
I am very very sorry for not looking up what the hell NAIS stood
for before replying. Obviously, I thought it stood for something else.
Regarding animal identification...... I was an engineer involved in
the TIRIS identification system, which is used in Europe to
identify every single pig with a radio frequency chip embedded
in it's ear (or otherwise) so that an animal is permanently identified
from cradle to plate..... It is also used in cattle and ostriches.
Maybe others......
The Europeans accept it as a cost of doing business.
Although it may be done differently in the US, I like the idea
of permanent animal identification. I do NOT like the idea of just
another pain in the ass that the government legislates on breeders.
We are mostly horse country around here and I am not aware
of vast herds of horses . I am guessing that you are talking about
cattle and pigs and chickens ---- a hell of a lot of expense.
Also I have heard of a large paperwork requirement when a horse
breeder takes a horse ANYWHERE off his property -- to shows,
to the vet, to a race, to a rodeo, to another ranch ---- and I have
listened to radio callers to the Mark Davis show (820AM in Dallas)
bitching and moaning about this. So I know that some people
are upset...... Nobody's shootin' at each other, tho....
Andy
