Is there anyone up your way getting upset about this NAIS crap? Folks
down
here in south Tejas are about to start a shootin' war and I might join
'em.

Andy responds:
If you mean the wiretap stuff, I haven't heard anything mentioned
about it either pro or con in Nawth Taxes. I occasionally bring the
subject up with strangers just to pass the time, and I see no
particular interest.
Most people think that there are laws against listening in on
phone conversatons, but in Texas there are no criminal penalties
for it, and no civil penalties unless some harm comes of it.
And nobody is upset.
I have posted about the Texas Statutes, and they can easily
be researched by anyone by going on line for themselves.
The Federal Section 1809 does not apply to private listeners,
only to recording conversations "under color of law"....
In Texas, recorded calls can be used in court if only one
of the talkers consents to it, so harrassing phone calls can be
used as evidence. I assume that everything I say is being
recorded by the other party, and it hasn't caused me a problem......
So, my opinion is that , since it is allowed in Texas and has
been going on for the last several dozen years without any
consequences being put in the newspapers, that people just
don't care about it very much.....If someone cared, it would've
been protested long before now.....
Just like someone reading my posts to the newsgroups. I
don't get upset by it. ....... They might.... (grin)

PS Save your shootin' for something that matters, like Mexicans
that hold up our middle eastern citizens working in 7-11
stores....
