He believed it was the truth, because he hadn't seen the data and
was foolish enough to believe the president. Most everybody at least
believed the president at first, though I don't think I myself ever
did. Who would think a president would conceal evidence other
than for security reasons, in which case he should say he was
withholding something for security reasons, when speaking to
congress? Bush is probably not the first, but I myself have no trust
in such a president. That's about things that affect me of course,
he can lie about sex all he wants. Everybody knows that people
lie about sex, and nobody over age 12 has believed them since the
beginning of time, but it's OK because it doesn't cost anybody
their bank account or their son.

If you mean the things that were passed off as being for nuclear
reactors, that was known to be false very soon after it was asserted,
so it's not anything we just found out. I was glad when the oil
executives were found to be lying one day, or not much more, after
they testified before the senate, not under oath. Maybe recent
events have alerted newspeople that they'd better be a lot more on
the ball than they have been, and not just trust people.
