In reality the undocumented alliens cost us nothing even though many people
think education and medical expenses come from our pocket. When they are
employed, by anybody, they pay taxes even though to fictitious SS numbers.
But the witholding tax, the workman's comp and all of that is taken out...
most of the time. Yes, there is a huge percentage that collect in cash, but
then spend most of it in the US for gifts and the like they will take back.
Also a lot goes back to their families which makes the inducement to come
across the border illegaly less appealing. There are a lot of benefits in
having Mexicans work in the US.
What we need to do is give them work permits for limited time periods just
as the brasero program back during WWII. It was a good program and should be
rinstated.
I only wish we could put some logic into this thing and get away from the
passionate unthinking rage that is consuming both sides of the argument.
I have a Mexican gardner. I don't know if he is legal or not. He drives a
pickup with a California plate. I pay im with a check (so he has a bank
account) as I would the kid next door if the kid next door had the huevos
to do any legitimate work. Which he does not. In fact he is resting in
juvenile for dealing drugs at this moment. That seems to be the alternative.
We must get smart about this thing.
