You're quite right, I didn't know that. My only images of Aunt
Jemima are positive. My grandmother had an Aunt Jemima note-holder
that I loved, and on the shelf above her stove there was always a box
of pancake mix showing a vigorous jolly black lady. Being very young
and Polish, I used to wonder who she was and how she got the job of
having her picture on the box.
