I heard the governor of Louisiana say last evening that they have mode
provisions to transport those in jail to a safe, secure location. They
also have have made provisions for the looters in a similar safe,
secure location. They had large numbers of boats taking people out of
NO with the Coast Guard being involved. People were taken to a highway
to wait until they could get additional transportation inland.
My hope is that they will build huge numbers of temporary housing for
the refugees. I heard the figures that in NO, 27% live below the
poverty level and presumably have no jobs to return to. There should
be plenty of construction jobs for those who are capable.
It is difficult not to compare Bush to Guiliani after 9/11. But, I do
not agree with those who feel Bush isn't doing an adequate job. The
army and national guard have been moved there. According to last
evening's news, there was plenty of water and meals at over 200
shelters run by the Red Cross which could handle all of the refugees.
Just heard a casino has reopened in Baton Rouge, so what more could you
ask?
