Hi, Group. I am Jim's daughter. Yes, we know he spent a lot of time on
the computer...if only he was just looking at pornography, we'd be less
embarrassed. Just kidding.
He was no closet liberal, just as he was no closet computer poster,
using his real name.
I assure you his family would be touched by a card, whether you agreed
with him or not. And we even want to thank the people who are still
steaming over his posts. I can also assure you, when he knew he got
some of you upset to the point of discombobulation, that knowledge would make his day. He baited us, too sometimes. We had just figured
out he stopped egging us on when we ignored his baiting us. Thanks for your thoughts and kinds words, those of you who expressed
them. If you want the Maryland address for the card, please email me;
the Georgia address is okay, also. I am at achamblee@xxxxxxxxx

Thanks for posting, Andrea. The card is in the mail. I sent it to
an address someone posted for Columbia, MD.

I thought also that your Father would enjoy all the comments, and
probably most enjoy the carrying on of those who were upset by his
views -- he never allowed the least criticism to ruffle his cool.
He would just say they were behaving true to form, which certainly
is the truth. Someone has to be very important to merit as much
attention as his detractors chose to give him. In a convoluted way,
it is a compliment. Far worse would be to have Jim's passing elicit
only a yawn.

There are many of us who will miss his posts and he was one of those
who welcomed me to the group many years ago.

His memory will live on in soc.retirement.

Having been in and out recently, I just heard of Jim Chamblee's passing, and I can't believe it. He seemed so alert, so focused and so involved, his sudden passing will create a void in this group. His posting of articles advising us of the ills of reactionism will be sorely missed, as he was, in many respects, the conscience of us all.

Alan

   Amen, or whatever the Jewish equivalent might be.

Please add my name to those who will miss Jim. I enjoyed reading the articles that he posted as well as his deeply felt convictions as evidenced in his correspondence. He is missed.
