This does not mean, though, that I have to agree with his views or
get involved with the flamewars he is currently in.
I'm not asking that, but sooner or later someone will have to be
there to pick up the pieces.
David is an adult and is therefore responsible for his own behaviour. I
can't see him needing to have his peices picked up, but then again, I uspect
that even if he did, he wouldn't turn to Usenet.
David gets himself into tight spots.
David does not appear to see it that way.
Have
you noticed how much he has been posting ?
Sure. He's posted like that for a long long LONG time.
If so, can you see the
effect it may have on him with no one talking with him, unless they
are flaming him ?
Here in unmoderated Usenet - much like real life - people have a 'right' to
say stuff, but there is no obligation for anyone to 'listen'. Most people
understand that.
If David doesn't get replies or he gets replies that he doesn't like, then
its on him to figure out why and either a) modify his behaviour such that he
gets replies that satisfy him or b) continue to post in the same old way but
accept that he's not going to get the sort of replies that please him or c)
stop posting entirely.
yes...I'm worried about him. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am.
Caring about a person doesn't mean you also have to condone their behaviour
or interact with them when you feel it is not of any benefit (to you and/or
them).

But I'm not sure about the quaker beliefs. It seems to me that their
basic spirituality is, well....more open ?, if thats the correct
word ? Or perhaps "unguarded spirituality" is a better term, making,
or allowing yourself to be sensitive to things and forces that perhaps
could be dangerous.
I can't answer this all. Perhaps you'd like to read up on Qukaerism. Try:
www.quaker.org
You may also want to test which faith tradition you have an affinity with at
belief.net:

Although it is biased towards the Judeo/Christian traditions
The first step in accepting spirituality for me was to acknowledge
that it is real, and not just a delusion of hallucination. The
lamest thing about religion was always the promises that never were
kept by church pastors, who had no business making those promises.
I make it a point to stay as far away from them as I can get.
I don't really care if its a delusion. The *experience* is real, even if the
interpretation is a delusion. The question is of course, if I accept the
delusion as real, what are the consequences: good bad or neutral.
I think I hurt a fair few people when i was a raving fundamentalist. These
days, my faith is a private one - although I'm happy to talk about it if
people want to talk to me about it. I no longer think I've got all the
answers - mostly I just have a whole bunch of questions and some educated
guesses.
