you believe them (rather than making nasty remarks about them, calling
them a liar and then kill-filing them)?
I too thought you were a sock puppet of Kirk for a little while - your
initial style was very similar to Kirk's and Kirk is known to employ
sock-puppets.
Of course, I no longer hold this opinion, I know you are Kelly.

I made the same error, which, combined with my being more aggressive
that Yowie, obviously offended <316>. I also see that my not believing
the claim not to be a sock puppet (most sock puppets claim not to be
sock puppets) also offended <316>. I can also see that the hurt I
caused was not temporary, but continues to this day. Because these
things have been brought to my attention, I would like to say the
following:
<316>, I apologize. I was wrong. I am very sorry for the hurt I
caused you, and I wish that there was a way that I could take it
all back. I am asking you to please forgive me for offending you.
If I have done anything else to offend you, please let me know and
if I was in the wrong I will apologize for that as well. The reason
(and I do mean, reason, not excuse) behind my action was based on
the fact that this newsgroup has some fairly sophisticated sock
puppets, forgers, etc. who delight in stirring up animosity among
others. Again, I am sorry. I have removed you from my killfile.
If I ever killfile you again (My usual reason is flaming or morphing
to avoid being killfiled) I will do so silently so as not to offend
you once again.

For a time I had someone who jumped from the usual Usenet flaming to
criminal harassment, calling my home with threats and scaring my
wife. The harassment always referenced posts to soc.religion.quaker.
They stopped after I traced the calls to Canada and notified the local

I believe so. If the phone calls ever start again I will look into
him further. He also puts out huge volumes of posts claiming that
various people he has dealt with on Usenet and in real life are
sodomizing him, sodomized by him, etc. This is another good reason
for using a pseudonym. He has already spewed out a bunch of posts
about how "Engineer sodomized me." Imagine if he had figured out a
real name to hang on those posts. A Google search on my real name
might very well turn them up. An employer might see that and think
"I don't know what he did to set off this kook, but just to be safe
I will hire this other fellow who doesn't have anything like that
when I Google him." I am the sole caregiver for a wife with a severe
handicap and huge medical bills, so I really don't want to risk it.
Usually when I discuss this, someone chimes in with an opinion that
my concerns are silly, the scenario isn't likely, etc., but I say
that it is my call as to what risks I take, and not the call of someone
who won't be hurt if they are wrong.
BTW, D.C. is well aware of all of this, which is why he keeps
injecting my real name into posts despite my never replying
(I can't reply, I don't see those posts). He wishes to harm me
and my disabled wife, and this is the only way he knows to
accomplish that goal. Anyone who deletes my real name when
replying to him helps to protect my wife from a somewhat
unlikely but also potentially deadly outcome. Yes, I said
deadly. If D.C. succeeds and I am hindered from making enough
money to pay for some really expensive treatments, it might
very well kill her. At the very least she will be subjected to
unbearable levels of pain.
For the same reason, I would never reveal your full name or the
full name of anyone here who chooses to use a pseudonym. Unless
they tell me differently, I use the name they put in the From
line. Please let me know if "<316>" is not what you wish to
be addressed as.
