Pure Reason

"Besides, there is one religious faith that you have neglected
to consider--the doctrine of Fred. Fred is the exact same God
as the Christian God, but with one big difference. Fred
created a universe in which natural explanations for natural
phenomena always appear more reasonable than supernatural
explanations for natural phenomena. That is, we can explain
the existence of humans by the natural process of evolution,
which requires no supernatural intervention to explain how
humans came into existence. There is absolutely no way to
verify that the supernatural being called "God" or "Fred"
is necessary to explain anything that we observe. Why would
Fred create such a universe? Well, one possible reason is
that Fred wanted to distinguish between rational and
irrational minds. Rational beings would conclude that
supernatural beings such as Fred did not exist. People who
ended up believing in a supernatural cause for existence
could then be judged "defective" and excluded from the reward
of eternal existence. According to Fredism, God only wants
souls who think rationally. Hence, belief in a supernatural
"God" only gets you "hell" or nonexistence.
Now, according to Pascal's wager, you should not believe
in "God" or "Fred" or any other supernatural being. The
key to eternal life is nonbelief in the supernatural.
Religious skepticism gets you into heaven. I give you
this advice for free. Believe in God at the peril of your
immortal soul. Atheism or (at best agnosticism) is your
only salvation. Look around you. Do you see any direct
evidence of a supernatural God? No? Well, that just proves
my point. Either God doesn't exist, or he constructed a
universe in which belief in his existence would be difficult
to maintain rationally. Heed the evidence. Disbelieve!
