We were hit by a tornado yesterday evening about 6:40 pm CST. I was
standing in the
front yard watching the clouds when it dipped down briefly. Wind
speeds hit approx.
100 mph as the wind twisted the tops from trees just north of my
house, and ruffled
the shingles on our homes. We sustained minor damage, but my security
camera caught
it all on tape. I've got to contact the insurance people this morning
and have them come and
look the roof over.

I just hate to see the season start again, and so early !

I"d love to see a tornado - from a safe distance. I've been fascinated by them - and weather in general - from a very early age, so much so that my preferred profession would have been meteorology. However, at the time of high school graduation (when we had to choose which path to go on) I found out that Australia only hired two meteorologists a year, and there was no meteorology course offered in Australia. I fell back to my second choice: chemistry, and have been working as an industrial chemist ever since.

Perhaps if I lived in 'Tornado Alley' where property is regularly destroyed and lives are often lost, I might feel differently about these incredibly violent storms. The 'best' I've seen is a 'willy willy' - which you folks might know as a 'dust devil', and stood inside it as the litter of the playground swirled around me. It was awesome.

PS, Sorry for being Off Topic, but figure this thread would be plonked by most if not all because of the subject line anyway.

Well the season is upon us anyway. If I can catch another one in
action I'll try to record a clip of it on my cellphone and post
it to the web for download. Lat night was to scary and sudden
for us. I stood on the porch and looked up at it as it was
rotating. it had to be a mile wide at the least...very scary !

I read my post and have seen all the typos and spelling mistakes
above ! Thats almost as scary ! Hey, if you guys are tired of your
'Roos, send me one or two small ones !
