Right. Talk about spam!

My news-reader strips out any HTML and leaves only plain text - so all I
saw was an empty message. (So I used Lynx to pull the article from my
local server to see what it was really all about - what a load of rubbish!
And apparently sent using 'WebTV' too, curiously).

By the way, has anybody heard of "Hipcrime"? I suspect that's what hit
us recently. It's free, open-source software that lets vandals mess up
Usenet. It's nasty stuff, but it's been around for a long time.

Please don't follow-up to those posts, needless to say, or other people
may suspect they're legitimate. (And they're often cross-posted to
other groups, too.)

Someone has been touting his own attempt at a program to imitate
HipCrime's 'NewsAgent', in some groups. It may be that at least part of
the flooding going on is 'publicity' for that. Aren't the school holidays
fun?

Some news-servers are doing much better at 'dropping' the floods than
others are. Eventually, the compromised computers and badly configured
news-servers that make the flooding possible, will be isolated or fixed,
and things will get back to normal.
