What concepts, principles, practices does it include / exclude?
Not whom. What does the word mean to you?
The point is that it shouldn't matter to anyone else what it
means to me. In my opinion, each of us must directly experience
the Light for ourselves. I think that we are programmed by millions
of years of evolution to evaluate and judge the principles and
practices of other people. I have made a conscious decision to
reject what my genes tell me to do in this regard, and I suspect
that sharing my views plays into the hands of those who are still
in the thrall of the exclusionary meme. So if I were to say that
I am pretty much in agreement with Bean, Fox, or Calvin, those who
are looking for a reliable shibboleth (that which identifies one
as a member of an 'in' group, or identifies him/her as an outsider
to be excluded by the group -- Judges Chapter 12, verses 1-15)
will seize upon it and use it as a shibboleth. Or, in Timothy's
case, as a club to beat me with.
"Philosophy is committed to the discovery of truth; it is not
obliged, as a discipline, to defend any particular set of beliefs
at any cost. Such is not the case with theology. Theology, as a
discipline, is concerned with the defense of a particular set of
beliefs; Christian theology is concerned with the defense of the
Christian religion."
