Re: Licia Kuenning

Indeed.

I read the links that Engineer posted about why she left RSOF, I must say
that the articles of the "Code of Conduct" are heavily emphasized in the
Friends of Truth's constitution, particular further emphasis being given to
"Opinions, Backbiting, Oaths, and Conventional Insencerities", each with its
own charter heading. This leads me to suspect that these problems loom
large in the lives of the members of the sect.

At any rate, I made good on my resolve to contact the people she named in
her letter to me to inquire as to the legitimacy of her concerns. I
telephoned the Editor of Canadian Friend, who immediately became very
defensive, refusing to discuss the subject and stating that she was beyond
the point of endurance in dealing with the issue, her stress and weariness
coming through very clearly in her tone.

I was able to learn that the number of concerned Friends contacting Canadian
Friend and CYM on this subject has so overwhelmed this woman and at least
one other member of HMAC* that they have resigned their positions at least
in part due to the stress caused by this problem.

I proposed to submit a piece on the subject to Canadian Friend, clarifying
her allegations about disreputable treatment at the hands of CYM & it's
various organs. Although she said she would consider it like any other
submission, I didn't get the feeling that it would be warmly recieved at
Canadian Friend.

The publication will not ship until the end of June, which will make Licia's
situation completely moot any way. What concerns me about the matter is not
whether or not Licia is correct about her prophecy, but whether she has
grounds for complaint against CYM.

I still haven't found the answer to that one, but I'll keep you posted.

Seconded.. as someone whose known what it is like to be considered mad
for
believing the things I believe I've a soft spot for others equally
willing
to be laughed at for the things they believe. I am also very aware that
placed in a situation where one feels obliged to defend unpopular
notions,
the choice that others perceive one to have made is in reality no more
choice than gravity is choice having slipped from a rock.

She gets my respect for acknowledging that she might be wrong and that if
she was wrong, it would mean all her assumptions are wrong. This sets her
apart from many of the other people who cannot even conceive that their
predictions may not come true.

Of course, the real test of her character will come in June. Since I'm
assuming her prediciton won't come to pass, I hope that it will not cause
her to start spinning untruths abut the prediction, and also that it
doesn't mean she mentally derails.
