anyone out there using a Mac? How do you access newsgroups?

Variety of options, if you go to the apple / mac site and choose the Mac OS
X tab, then choose the downloads option and go to the search box, select
internet utilities and search for newsgroup... The one that seems most
recommended is called Unison. I used to use one called thoth - but that has
been withdrawn - I switched to using MS Entourage that came with my MS
Office for Mac suite - don't use it for mail, just reading NG's I have to
say of all of the NG readers for OS X that I've tried over the years, this
is the simplest and nicest IMO.

Thanks, Diane.

You know, of course, it's not for *me.*

I have a friend who got tired of all the hassles with Windows/PC and
decided to switch. (His home office looks pretty funny, right now,
with two lap tops set up and turned on at the same time as he converts
his files and himself over).

Another excellent resource is [ http://www.newsreaders.com/ ].
The "Clients ("Newsreaders")" section list Windows, MacOS, Unix/Linux,
PDAs, Java and AOL, and a little lower on the page are links to
Mail to News Services and Web based News services.

Use the best system for what you want to do: Macintosh for Graphics/
Productivity, Palm for Portability/Ease of Use, Linux for Stability/
Power, Nintendo or Playstation for gaming, and Windows for Solitaire/
Spam-Spewing Zombie viruses.

I never have any problems with my Windows/PC, you know, but everyone's
experiences are different.

The days when viruses cause visible problems to the users are fast
coming to an end. The new breed of viruses silently sits there, not
interfering with your use of the PC at all, because the virus writers
have figured out how to make money from your infected PC.

80% of spam comes from virus-infected Windows zombie PCs
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/04/trojan_spam_study/print.html

Virus writers are selling the IP addresses of PCs infected with Trojans
to spammers. Spammers use these infected systems to unlawfully distribute
commercial email messages, without the knowledge of their owners.

Microsoft software is so unsecure that spammers are now writing
viruses that infect home computers and turn them into spam sources

PCs take more sick days than their users; The average UK PC is rendered
unusable for the equivalent of around nine working days every year
because the owner is cleaning up spam or fighting viruses. This is
two days a year more than the average UK worker takes off as sick leave...

There is a 50 percent chance your unprotected Windows PC will be compromised
within 12 minutes of going online...
