Again I point out to you that your supposed "standard, established
usage" is a fabrication. There is indeed a standard established
usage for the names of religions and those who follow those religions,
but you mischaracterize that standard established usage. Established
usage for "Mormon" is not restricted to "member of the Church of Jesus
Christ, Latter Day Saints." Established usage for "Catholic" is not
restricted to "member of the Roman Catholic Church" Established usage
for "Jew" is not restricted to members of any particular group. In most
religions, there are splinter groups and individuals who have left the
organization in the belief that they are following the True religion and
the organization is not, and established usage is to call both sides by
the name that they wish to be called by. The claim that standard usage
limits "***ists/***ers/***ites" to members of *** religion" (replace
"***" with the religion of your choice) is simply not true. It is ONE
common usage, not THE ONLY ALLOWABLE usage. This is an established fact
that anyone here can verify simply by looking at a dictionary or by
simply making a list of all the religions they know of and the common
usage of the names used for individual followers of that religion.
There are many followers of various religions that strongly argue that
other followers of the same religion are not what they claim to be, but
such claims are not reflected in common usage by those who are not
followers of the religion in question.
