Never been in the army but as I understand the term, blue refers to people
on ones own side and red to people that one deems on the other side. So
blue-on-blue is our side attacking our side mistakenly thinking they are
attacking the enemy, while red on red is our enemy attacking our enemy
even if these two enemies each feel themselves the legitimate enemy of the
other. The recent class between religious fundamentalists and the sunni
forces opposing the US presence was described in the media as a red on
red conflict.

Precisely so. It was only much later that I came to grasp how this
personification of what the British bobby was, altered in the minds of
the public the relationship between them and the police, (and vica versa)
in what I still consider a very positive way. The media has a power to
influence, and it troubles me when the media appears to act counter to
the interests of society... for example by spreading panic instead of
calm, by promoting the idea that government is the enemy, or whatever.

When I click the TV on in a hotel room I'm always secretly hoping for South
Park or the Simpsons to be on one of the channels as I cycle through them.
Or Mash, or ... I don't know the Daily Show though I think perhaps I aught
to. I think Jon Steward is involved in it. I did see him in a video clip
attacking the hosts of crossfire, and his positions there very much jived
with my own.

(If you want to watch click on the watch now -- kill the video that comes up
which is invariably an ad, then repeat the click to see the actual video.
This tricks the software into thinking you've seen the commercial).
