Let's try a word picture:
Imagine a book, with the title: "Church History". There is a paper
band wrapped around it [like the ones you find on a motel's toilet
seat]. The band is labeled: "Sanitized for your protection".
That is the feeling I get when I notice there is one, and only one,
reference to the King Follett sermon, and no citation at all of,
"Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith", in our current priesthood/RS
manual. TPJS is probably the most complete and definitive collection
of the prophet's teachings. Yet it is entirely ignored by our present
manual, as are the, "Book of Commandments", "Lectures on Faith", and
other seminal documents. We get the abridged/clarified [sanitized!]
version from, "History of the Church", which is a compilation from
secondary sources in many cases.
