It occurs to me, now that i read your presentation, that Scott has said
he disagrees with me, but i haven't heard why the shoe doesn't fit on

mainstream Xians to disagree on things that Mormonism holds as central
(such as, oh, the method of baptism).
Why not? We don't hold that failing to "get it right" will mean that
upon disembarking the plane Jesus won't be holding up a sign with our
name on it, rather he'll have some faithful LdS on hand to show us to
the baptismal fount before we can leave the airport.

Also google "orthodox space".
Whether Mormons disagree with each other on a vast number of things is
mostly moot in most respects, I'm sure. Whether they claim not to over
time ("nothing has changed") or whether they claim that the critic
alone is clueless when in many cases the critic is just channeling
what other Mormons have told him, is another story.
The whack-a-mole phenomenon occurs when a hapless critic (a) believes
what Mormons tell him about their faith, (b) in conversation with
other Mormons, exposes those understandings, and (c) hears from these
more recent LdS that what he thinks Mormonism believes is ridiculous
-- where could you have possibly gotten such notions?
And you wonder why I ask you to cite your authorities? Remember, every
LdS who tells a critic something the LdS believes the critic should
understand, is in the position of LdS in situation (a) above. The wise
critic doesn't dare proceed to position (b) unless those LdS views are
corroborated and substantiated by authorities the LdS in situation (c)
are bound to accept.
Well, i actually have some idea of why Jeff holds such a position. But
not Scott, which is interesting, since he seems to be saying that those
things that are central to mainstream Xianity must needs be central to
Mormonism--so why don't things central to Mormonism have to be central
to mainstream Xianity?
??
Why should orthodoxy dance when heterodoxy pipes? I don't understand.
David, who's raised this before with and without success
