Probably not the parts about no meat. Mormons try to pretend that
that doesn't exist. And the barley drinks thing is kind of passe,
too.

Joseph Smith DID clarify what "sparingly" means in the next verse,
which should help:

13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only
in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.

Joseph Smith made that "clarification" or the Lord did? Of course it would
be well if we all tried very hard to do only those things that are "plesing
to the Lord". Which and how many of us really try hard to do that? (Not that
this is an axcuse for failure, but many "Gospel Hobby Horses" are riddent to
divert the attention of others, or even of oneself, from important things
that are ignored.

Of course. The meat thing is less important than the tobacco thing. Somehow.

And is that really a "clarification" or a bit of an enlargement. (And does
that last question matter?)

I'm sure that a lot of people at Church use that definition. I've
never heard them do so, though. People who try to follow this counsel
are usually mocked, and forbidden to even teach this idea to others.

Well, I don't see that as a "definition". I also don't enter into many
conversations about the subject. I seem to temember that the Lord put us
here to make choices and to learn from them, not to judge each other on the
choices we and they make.

I'm fairly certain that people drinking alcohol as often as they eat meat
would draw some disapproval and action from church leaders and other church
members.
